Ang Duong: The war to drive out Vietnamese troops from Cambodia

The following is a Google translation of the original French text, so the translation is not as good as a human translation.

News from the Motherland

We broadcast a long article to show that King Ang Duong (pictured) was able to govern without a court official in Bangkok and no representative of the court of Hue. He was able to reign in Cambodia at peace and for the first time without being troubled by any serious contender. He was able to organize an army and, for the first time in our history, trade.

The opposing forces

The alleged double vassalage

In a country, a law is only applied if there is a force to do so. It is the same internationally A treaty shall be applied only if the recipient country has the strength to enforce it. Consider the case of the treaty of "peace" between Hanoi and Washington from January 27, 1973. March 2nd International Conference with the presence of Secretary General of the UN "took note" of these agreements. Starting March 29 (final) of the last soldiers of the U.S. military. Washington is obliged, under popular pressure to withdraw its troops in accordance with the Agreements. Hanoi will take the opportunity to launch its offensive January 7, 1975, a week after finding that the United States remained passive after the Khmer Rouge offensive, launched on January 1. The Khmer arrived in Phnom Penh April 17, 1975, Hanoi to Saigon arrives April 30, 1975.

Siam has owed its independence to the fact that the English and French forces need to attack China in particular to Beijing in 1900, with in particular the destruction and looting of priceless Summer Palace.

The court of Hue was a vassal of China. To conquer Tonkin, French forces fought against the Chinese army. France is finally forced to wage a war against China to force it to relinquish its suzerainty over Annam and Tonkin.

• 11 May and 9 June 1884: Signing of the Treaties of Tianjin. China recognizes the Treaty of Hué (1883), establishing a French protectorate over Annam.

· 23 June 1884: the French are beaten by the Chinese who do not apply the Treaty of Tianjin.

· July 12, 1884: France sends an ultimatum to China and demands the payment of war reparations.

• 5 August 1884: The French navy bombarded the port of Fuzhou and establishes a blockade of Taiwan.

° 9 June 1885: Chinese troops are defeated by French forces occupy the port of Ningpo and the Pescadores. By the second Treaty of Tianjin, China renounced its sovereignty over Annam and Tonkin.

Annam King Gia Long had to ask the inauguration of China. We have seen that it is by force that France has forced China to relinquish its sovereignty over Annam and Tonkin.

Regarding the war waged by Ang Duong, we reproduce the opinion of the historian Le Thanh Khoi:

"Cambodia does not remain in peace. Civil unrest brought back to Siamese and Vietnamese called by one or other of the Khmer rulers who competed. Prices for their "help," the Siamese in 1814 occupied the provinces of Tonle Repou, Stung Treng and Mlu Prey, while Minh Mang in 1834, even tried to annex the country. He made the province of Tay Tran-thang, divided, divided into 32 and 2 phu Huyen. The policy of assimilation began at once: appointment of civil and military, opening schools in Vietnam, trade controls, land cadastre, waiver of taxes on registered, rice fields, small boats and local products. But the abuses indulged mandarins (Vietnamese) pitched against the invading Cambodia. Ang Chan's brother, Ang Duong (Ong Don) took the lead in strength with the help of Siam, and waged a guerrilla war lasts. After the death of Minh Mang, Thieu Tri, renouncing Tran-tay thang, withdrew its troops (1841). This brief annexation of Cambodia, expensive in men and material, thus results in a failure. But the decision was wise Thieu-tri. However, to have peace, Ang Duong acknowledged himself a vassal of his two neighbors and, in 1847, received in his capital the double nomination. [1]

That our two neighbors will continue to write that Cambodia is their vassal before arrival the French is in their interests. That's understandable. Foreign historians continue to write as a result of French historians, it is a way to make us believe that the Cambodian people is not mature enough to manage his country alone. It is up to us to show that Cambodians Ang Duong is our last great king who ruled an Independent, that the Cambodian people is capable of carrying out the economic development of his country. A better understanding of our history is also an indispensable contribution to our confidence in the future of our nation.

In attachments we play:

1 / A long article to show that King Ang Duong is completely independent of its neighbors and was able to reign in Cambodia at peace and booming economy.

2 / Section Mak Phoeun "The border between Cambodia and Vietnam in the seventeenth century to the establishment of the French protectorate, presented through the Khmer Royal Chronicles" in "The Frontiers of Vietnam", edited by PB Lafont , Ed L'Harmattan, Paris 1989.

This article is only the beginning. We hope that our compatriots are interested more to the history and especially the history of Cambodia, placed in the context of World History. Nobody can do it for us.
