Cambodia's GDP growth in 2010 higher than expectation: PM

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 18, 2011 (Xinhua News Agency) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen (pictured) said Tuesday that the country's GDP growth in 2010 is 5.5 percent, higher than March's forecast of 5 percent.

The growth rate is higher than the forecast by the International Monetary Fund, the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank at 4.8 percent, 5 percent and 4.9 percent respectively.

"2010 was a good year for Cambodian economy with a significant growth of approximately 5.5 percent, attributive to the growth in tourism, agriculture and garment," the premier said on Tuesday evening during the official opening of the 30th ASEAN Tourism Forum.

Last year, Cambodia achieved tourism growth of 16 percent with international tourist arrivals of around 2.5 million, he said.

The premier projects that Cambodia's poverty line will go down to 19.5 percent by 2015 from 30 percent and 27.4 percent in 2007 and 2009 respectively.
