Banharn Silpa-archa, chief adviser to the Chart Thai Pattana Party, said Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban should travel to Cambodia to directly discuss the release of the seven captured Thais with Prime Minister Hun Sen.
The veteran politician was responding to the arrest of seven Thais, including a Democrat MP and a core leader of the People’s Alliance for Democracy, by Cambodian soldiers and charged with illegally entering the country.
They were visiting a disputed border area in Sa Kaeo province at the time.
“Mr Suthep should go to discuss the matter with Hun Sen before the Cambodian court gives its ruling on the case,” Mr Banharn said on Friday.
The former prime minister this morning opened his Charan Sanitwong residence in Bangkok to well-wishers, led by Deputy Prime Minister Sanan Kachornprasart, who came to offer him a New Year blessing.

If Thai citizen walked into Cambodian land, Hun Zen arrested them and put them in Jail. How about Youn who came into Cambodian land without Visa or papers and live inside Phnaom Penh city? they are living there free and doing any thing they wanted for free? why don't you Hun Zen arrested them too? and why not? or you are Youn? at least your head? is it right Hun Zen?
Well, I don't think Thai citizens should be granted the same right as Youn or do I think Youn has the right to freely walk into Cambodia without visa, even if Hun Sen let them. Any foreigner enter another country without proper permission will be subjected to questioning or arrest, if not proven wise. What Cambodia doing is perfectly legal. After all, those 7 Thai that were arrested were well aware of thier illegal action.
True, any foreigners who entered Cambodia without any documentations are considered illegal trespassers. All illegal trespassers must be arrested, detained and face legal procedures. If convicted, they should serve time in jail. In some cases, a royal pardon should be granted. However, Cambodia has released too many Thais and Thailand had never released any Cambodians. It is time Cambodia exchange these Thai prisoners with other Cambodian prisoners in Thai jails.
