Foreign Minister Hor Namhong has asked his Thai counterpart, Kasit Piromya, who is on an official visit to Cambodia, to consider Cambodia's proposal to open a dialogue about mineral exploration in the overlapping territorial sea waters claimed by both countries.
He proposed that the Cambodian negotiating team will be led by Deputy PM Sok An and the Thai side be led by Deputy PM Suthep Thausuban. Mr. Kasit has agreed to Cambodia's proposal and has proposed that the meeting should take place in Bangkok.
Early this month, Mr. Pierre Lellouche, France’s Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, has discussed French investments in the kingdom with Cambodian officials and said that Cambodia has awarded oil exploration rights to French oil giant Total to explore the areas. However, the operations had been put on hold because the areas are also claimed by Thailand.

It is sad that Cambodia have to share Cambodian sea territory with Thailand. The so-called "overlapping area", about 30,000 km2, is actually Cambodian sea. Our neighbors, Thailand and Vietnam, take both our land and sea territory because Hun Sen doesn't care to protect Khmer land, he only care to protect his power.
