Today, Cambodia has more than 80 universities and the number of students enrolled in the university courses have increased to nearly 200,000 students.

Mr. Pitt Chamnan, Secretary of Statement of Ministry of Education, recently said that the government have registered more than 80 universities and tertiary learning institutions. He said in 1997, Cambodia had only 9 tertiary institutions, but that has increased to more than 80 in 2010.

He added that in 1997, there were only 10,000 students enrolled at Cambodian tertiary institutions, but that present enrollments have increased to 161,561 in 2010. Most of these enrollments are in private universities and institutes.

Cambodian tertiary learning institutions have increased dramatically in recent years, but students and observers have criticised them for the lack of teaching and academic quality.

Too many universities but there is no quality. Most universities exist in name only. Other universities just cheated students of their money, but have no quality. Their qualifications are just useless.

Those 80 universities are more or less glorified secondary school. A bachelor degree student is studying Headway and pays about 350usd per year while another student can go to batouk high school to study the same book for 25usd shows the universities are all scam.
