STUDENTS at Leppington Public School are hoping to lighten the load of underprivileged children in Cambodia, by donating good quality used and new backpacks.
The Bags of Hope charity initiative, created by Education Department media officer Maruschka Loupis, invites NSW public school children to donate the bags. They will then be packed with school supplies and bottled water before being distributed to orphanages and other children’s support organisations in Cambodia, by the Hope for Cambodian Children organisation.
“Although we are only a small school, we have a big sense of community spirit, and are aiming to collect 50 bags,” Leppington principal Bronwyn York said.
“Our students share rich and diverse cultural backgrounds, and supporting a great cause like this helps to give them a global perspective and raises their awareness of the needs of children just like them in another part of our world.”
Schools can participate by emailing their school name, address, phone number and a contact name to maruschka.loupis@det.nsw.edu.au
