With the ever-increasing influences of China in Cambodia, the United States has been seen in recent months as trying hard to win the hearts and minds of the ordinary Cambodians as a mean to counter China's influences who have won the hearts and minds of the Cambodian leaders. The U.S has also made great efforts in government to government contacts with the high-powered visit of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the visits of U.S warships to Cambodia, with the USS Mustin, a warship commanded by the first Cambodian-born captain to make a visit in December. The U.S Embassy had also organised a number of free concerts in Cambodia, with the recent performances by the hybrid Cambodian-American psychedelic band Dengue Fever in May.
