DirectRooms.com – Special festivities take place in Sihanoukville for Human Rights Day

DirectRooms.com reveals that residents in Cambodia’s Sihanoukville (pictured) are preparing for series of parties and parades that will be taking place in December for Human Rights Day

[ClickPress, Wed Nov 17 2010] The coastal city will be marking the occasion on 10th December 2010 with processions through the streets featuring traditional Cambodian dances accompanied by music from local bands and singers. The public holiday is celebrated all over the country as the Cambodian people remember those so poorly treated by the Khmer Rouge while campaigning for better human rights for all citizens.

Recent concerns have been voiced over the way residents of certain towns have been treated with an increase in illegal evictions as developers have moved in and cleared away people’s homes.

The day is a way of highlighting the need for improved conditions for people and using history and culture to explore human rights further.

Sihanoukville is located to the southwest of Phnom Penh and is famous for its sandy beaches as it rests on three sides against the Bay of Thailand. In addition to the celebrations, people using a hotel Sihanoukville can take part in a number of activities such as fishing, scuba diving and visiting the many Buddhist temples found around the town.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: “Many Cambodians will be heading to Sihanoukville to take advantage of the public holiday and be by the sea. Hotel occupancy will be higher on the day so visitors should check online for availability and the best rates.”
