Four companies of metropolitan police will be deployed to maintain law and order in front of parliament on Tuesday when the People's Alliance for Democracy will rally against parliamentary endorsement of three reports of the Thai-Cambodian Joint Border Commission meetings, Metropolitan Police chief Chakthip Chaichinda said on Friday.
Pol Lt-Gen Chakthip said he had assigned Pol Maj-Gen Wichai Sangprapai, commander of Metropolitian Police Division 1, to supervise the police force on that day.
Pol Maj-Gen Wichai was familiar with the task of negotiating with protesters - be they the red-shirts or yellow-shirts - in the capital.
He expected no more than 1,000 people to join the rally which was set to begin at 8am.
