Kem Sokha (pictured), president of the opposition Human Rights Party (HRP) has said that he will appear before the court on 21st October as summoned after arriving back from a visit to the United States on Wednesday night.
Mr. Kem Sokha was sued by ex-employees of the Cambodian Centre for Human Rights for breach of trust in 2006 when he served as the director of the centre. The lawsuit had been shelved for many years, but was re-activated in recent months, apparently after he had made vocal criticism of various government policies.
Mr. Yem Ponharith, spokesman for the HRP, said Mr. Kem Sokha will appear before the court on 21st October as summoned. From 22-24 October, Mr. Kem Sokha will hold a meeting with party representatives from various provinces to discuss about the party's platforms and policies for the 2012 commune election and the 2013 parliamentary election.
