Cambodian vessel detained off Primorsky costs for crab poaching

VLADIVOSTOK, October 8 (Itar-Tass) -- A vessel flying the Cambodian flag with a crew of 15 Russian citizens and one citizen of Ukraine was detained off the coasts of Primorye for crab poaching. As ITAR-TASS learnt at the press group of the Border Department of the Russian Federal Security Service for the Primorsky Territory, the trawler Ecton was spotted by a patrol ship in the Russian territorial waters to the south of the Gamov Cape in the Peter the Great Bay on Thursday.

“The vessel didn’t obey lawful demands of border-guards to stop and even tried to escape the pursuit,” a representative of the Border Department said. And when the poaching vessel was stopped, more than 3,000 of illegally caught live crabs were found on its board.

On Friday, the vessel was escorted to the port of Nakhodka for further investigation. Crabs were let out to the sea, which made it possible to avoid damaging water bio-resources of the country to the sum of almost two million roubles.
