SAN Miguel Corporation president Ramon Ang met with Prime Minister Hun Sen yesterday to discuss plans to invest in a Cambodian brewery and whisky distillery, according to Eang Sophalleth, assistant to the Prime Minister.

The Philippines-based firm would partner with Cambodia's Royal Group, and may look at sectors such as energy and agriculture in the future, he said.

“San Miguel have showed where they stand, and they believe in investing in Cambodia,” Eang Sophalleth added yesterday.

San Miguel conglomerate claims to generate close to 3 percent of the gross domestic product of the Philippines, according to its website.

San Miguel officials in Cambodia declined to comment yesterday, referring questions to its Manila office, which did not respond to a reporter’s request.

Royal Group officials could not be reached for comment last night.
