The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has provided $35 million in aid for help in health and eduction sectors in Cambodia.
The aid agreement will be signed today, 28th September, by Mr. Long Visalo, Cambodian Secretary of State of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Flynn Fuller, mission director of USAID. $33.5 million of the aid money will be for the supports of the current projects such as reduction in the spread of AIDS and the impacts of AIDS, the prevention and the elimination of other communicable diseases such as tuberculosis, supports mother's and baby's health and to strengthen public health sectors in Cambodia. $1.5 million will be used for the strengthening of the education sector in order to raise the quality of education, to increase the ability of young children to attend schools, including children of the minority ethnic groups and children from low socio-economic backgrounds, with a view to the reduction in school drop-out and to increase the quality of teaching.
The United States has so far provided Cambodia with $277 million in aid in the health and education sectors.
