Hun Sen-Abhisit met in New York and agreed on 4 points

Prime Minister Hun Sen has on Friday 24th September met with Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva face to face in New York for 4o minutes where both sides have agreed on 4 points.

Mr. Prak Sokhon, Minister attached to the Prime Minister, said during the 40 minutes face to face meeting both prime ministers have agreed on the following points:

1. Both sides will do their utmost to avoid armed clashes, including military confrontations.
2. Promote co-operations on cultural exchanges in arts and sports sectors.
3. To jointly examine the possibility of opening Stung Bot Checkpoint near Poipet in a view to maintaining Poipet International Checkpoint as a tourist checkpoint and Stung Bot as a gateway for trades bewteen the two countries.
4. To jointly monitor media reports and media incitements in both countries to avoid misunderstanding, especially the attacks on the heads of the governments of the two countries which can lead to confrontation.

Mr. Prak Sokhon said the purpose of the face to face meeting was to pave the way for confidence measure building as well as discussing ways for the strengthening of co-operations between the two countries.

According to Kampuchea Thmey, both prime ministers did not discuss about the Preah Vihear issue which Mr. Hun Sen strongly declared that he will raise with Mr. Abhisit after he was angered by Mr. Abhisit's alleged threats to use force to evict Cambodian troops and civilians from an area near the temple.
