Chen Vitou, 32, a reporter with the local newspaper Ta Prohm, was arrested on Friday following complaints from frog vendors at markets in the Anlong Thnout commune that he demanded between 10,000 riels (US$2.35) and 20,000 riels in exchange for not printing stories about their alleged illegal businesses.
But district police chief Leng Song said the selling of frogs was not illegal, nor was the way they were obtained.
“These poor people found frogs in rice fields and lakes, around three to five kilos each time,” he said.
