The Cambodian government has released a statement saying that Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, the fugitive ex-Thai PM, had tendered his resignation as Prime Minister Hun Sen's economic advisor and as advisor to the Cambodian government, according to a statement obtained by Khmerization.

The government had also released a royal decree signed by King Sihamoni accepting Mr. Thaksin's resignation.

Both the statement and the royal decree stated that Mr. Thaksin's resignation is effective from 23rd August. The statement lauded Mr. Thaksin's contributions to Cambodia's developments. "Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra had made very important contributions in dispensing advices, in providing vision and had brought abundant experiences to help promote Cambodia's competitiveness, especially in the trade, investment, agriculture and tourism sectors. His Excellency had helped to attract large investors to have interests in Cambodia's potentials in the above-mentioned sectors", said the statement.

According to the statement, the reasons that Mr. Thaksin had decided to resign was because of his personal dilemma. "Due to his personal difficulties in the fulfillment of his role, His Excellency Thaksin Shianwatra had asked to be relieved of his position", added the statement.

The statement then said that the government of Cambodia had accepted Thaksin's resignation and thanked him for his many contributions to Cambodia's economy.

Mr. Thaksin had been appointed as Cambodian government's advisor and also economic advisor to Prime Minister Hun Sen on 27th October 2009 in a controversial decision that lead to the worsening of relations between Cambodia and Thailand.
