The Thai Nation newspaper reported that the Thai Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Suthep Thaugsuban (pictured), has sought a meeting with Prime Minister Hun Sen after Prince Sisowath Thomico, advisor to ex-King Sihanouk, wrote to Thai Prime Minister asking for a restraint after reports of Thai military build-up along the border areas, reports Deum Ampil.

Asked by the The Nation what he think about Prince Thomico's letter to Abhisit, Mr. Suthep he cannot elaborate as he hasn't seen the detail of the the letter. However, he maintains that the government of Thailand wants a peaceful solution to the Preah Vihear issue.

Mr. Suthep said he is ready to meet Prime Minister Hun Sen to discuss about the Preah Vihear issue if given the task my Prime Minister Abhisit. Asked about the Thai government's appropriation of 239 million Baht ($8 million) for border defence in the wake of renewed border tensions with Cambodia, Mr. Suthep said it is normal for a country to boost up its military in order to defend its sovereignty.

There is no response from Prime Minister Hun Sen regarding Mr. Suthep's offer of an olive branch. However, Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong said today he is ready to meet Mr. Suthep if he is sent to talk with Cambodia over the Preah Vihear issue.

Mr. Koy Kuong, spokesman for the Cambodian Foreign Ministry, said Mr. Suthep is a Thai deputy prime minister, therefore it is normal that he meets a Cambodian deputy prime minister instead of a prime minister.
