The Cambodian government has ordered the deployment of hundreds of troops equipped with modern weapons to prevent Thai ultra-nationalists from crossing the border to claim part of the border area, reports Radio Free Asia.

200 hundred Thai ultra-nationalists had staged a protest very close to the border in Thailand's Sakaeo province with an intention to cross into Cambodian territory in Banteay Meanchey province to claim part of the border area as Thai territory.

Mr. Chhouk Ang, commander of Brigade 911, said on Monday that his troops had been ordered to shoot if the Thai yellow shirts crossed into Cambodian territory. "The yellow shirt group planned to cross the border [to enter Cambodian territory] because the area hasn't been properly demarcated yet, so they want to occupy the area and claim it as Thai territory, they want to delimit the border by themselves. So, when I received the information, I reinforced the troop numbers and if they enter, it is unavoidable that we will destroy them. Samdech [Hun Sen]'s order had been given. We will not invade them and they must not invade us, and if they invade us we will use self-defence rights to defend ourselves", he said.

The report also said that hundreds of Thai troops had been deployed to prevent those yellow shirts from crossing the border. After they can't cross, the yellow shirt group had dispersed the same day. The report also said that 40 Cambodian migrant workers working for Thai employers in the field nearby had been evacuated after those yellow shirts had harassed them. The report also said that many border checkpoints along the Banteay Meanchey-Sakaeo border had also been closed.
