A senior Cambodian official has rejected outright a Thai proposal for a joint listing and joint management of Preah Vihear temple, saying the Thai proposal was a Tojan horse to reclaim the ownership of Preah Vihear temple in the future, reports Radio Free Asia.

Mr. Phay Siphan (pictured), spokesman for the Cambodian Council of Ministers, told RFA on Wednesday that Cambodia will never agree to a joint listing and a joint management of the temple with Thailand. Mr. Phay Siphan's comments came in response to comments made by Thai PM Abhisit Vejjajiva and Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya who said that Cambodia can end border disputes with Thailand only when it agrees to a joint listing and a joint management of Preah Vihear temple with Thailand. "This is only a venomous trick of an ambition to invade and want to swallow Cambodian territory. So, Cambodia has revealed its position very clearly that we don't accept and we don't want to hear a word about the joint management or joint listing which is a venomous trick. This is an ambitious expansionist trick to swallow our territory. The issue that they have raised now has been raised since 2007", he said.

Mr. Rong Chhun, president of Cambodian Independent Teachers Association, said Thailand's proposal for a joint development and a joint management of Preah Vihear temple contravene international laws. "The claims made by the Thai prime minister is a violation of international laws as well as the verdict of the International Court of Justice in The Hague in 1962 and violates the 1904-1907 Franco-Siamese Treaty. The areas around Preah Vihear temple are Cambodian territories and if Thailand demands a joint [management] agreement, it is a violation of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity", he said.

Mr. Phay Siphan advised the Thai PM that if Thailand wants to end the border issue with Cambodia, he should leave the job to the border committees of the two countries to demarcate a permanent borderline between the two countries.

Good defense here, but his words must be followed by actions. Don't agree to Thai demand-protect the 4.6sq. kilometers at all cost.
