Angelina Jolie: Acting Image v/s Universal Image! [by becoming a Cambodian citizen]

Angelina and Brad Pitt.

Entertainment ans Showbiz
Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni awarded Jolie Cambodian citizenship for her conservation work in the country on August 12, 2005; she has pledged $5 million to set up a wildlife sanctuary in the north-western province of Battambang and owns property there.

One of the most conventional names that counts to be among the Top5 of the most versatile and popular actresses in Hollywood is that of- Angelina Jolie!

Since winning a Golden Globe for her daring performance in the HBO movie ‘Gia’ back in 1998, Angelina Jolie has become one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood. Among the films in which she portrayed the role of a feminine lady with a very conventional yet a different and subtle twist in her feminine charms are- ‘Girl,Interrupted’, ‘The Bone Collector’, ‘Talking Lives’, ‘Tom Raidor’ etc.

Further on she started to vent out of her feminine roles and step into the sphere of tough characters and experimented and experience the taste of stiffness! The works that added more grace in her acting career are- ‘George Wallace’, ‘Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow’, ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’, ‘The Mighty Heart’, ‘Changeling’.

Other works of her which are worth of extreme applause and accolades are: ‘Wanted’, ‘The Good Shepherd’, ‘Beowulf’ etc.

The nominations for great achievements and awards in which her name was listed and where she won, counts not only the category of ‘Best Actress’, but also categories like- ‘Best Supporting Actress’, ‘Best Outstanding Supporting Actress’, ‘Outstanding Lead Actress’ and the world famous- Oscar Award!

Just a week ago, her new movie ‘Salt’ was released in which she portrays the role of a Government agent who may be a Russian spy! Originally written for a man as the lead (with Tom Cruise very close to playing the role), Salt was re-written for Jolie. The movie has already soared the second rank in Hollywood box-office and gaining huge appreciations world-wide!

However, wander-stricken is the fact that Jolie’s universal or social image has a great toll on her acting image! Throughout the past decades she is been seen to play an active and energetic neutral and secular humanitarian role in the social sphere! She is the declared UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, plays an active part of the World Refugee Unit as well shares a recognizing function in the World Economic Forum.

She did a mammoth for the National Center for Refugee and Immigrant Children. She adds to the social forum by co-chairing the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, the Jolie/Pitt Foundation which made initial donations to Global Action for Children and Doctors Without Borders of $1 million each!

Jolie has received wide recognition for her humanitarian work. In 2003, she was the first recipient of the newly created Citizen of the World Award by the United Nations Correspondents Association, and in 2005, she was awarded the Global Humanitarian Award by the UNA-USA. Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni awarded Jolie Cambodian citizenship for her conservation work in the country on August 12, 2005; she has pledged $5 million to set up a wildlife sanctuary in the north-western province of Battambang and owns property there. In 2007, Jolie became a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and she received the Freedom Award by the International Rescue Committee.

After she and Pitt donated $1 million to relief efforts in Haiti following a devastating 2010 earthquake, Jolie visited Haiti and the Dominican Republic to discuss the future of relief efforts.

So… it is rather a debatable matter that whether her professional fame induces social image or vice-versa! But as far as my wits travel… both her images are secular and neutral in their own respective ways. She does that which she thinks just and apt!
