A coordinated operation between Cambodian police and military police in Rattanakiri province has led to the arrests of 6 Vietnamese illegal miners and the confiscations of 9 rock grinding machinery, reports Kampuchea Thmey.
The report said at 4:15pm on Friday 9th July, police and military police swooped in on an illegal gold mine in Badol village in Sesan commune of O'Yadao district in Rattanakiri province after they received an order from the provincial governor, Mr. Horm Phan, to raid the mine.
Mr. Sok Min, commander of military police and Mr. Ma Vichet, police inspector for O'Yadao district, said after their forces raided the illegal gold mine, they tried to burn down the 9 machinery, but they were not burnt so they arrested the 6 miners and brought them to O'Yadao military police station for questioning.
Mr. Dork Sor, governor of O'Yadao district, told Kampuchea Thmey on 2nd July that he has come down to crack down on the illegal mines in the area many times before, but they were tipped off beforehand and fled before the authority arrived. They later regrouped and started to re-operate the mines again, he said.
As of late, the Phnom Penh Post reported that the 6 Vietnamese illegal miners have been deported without charge and punishment.
