Battambang Bamboo Bandits...

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

The following day we headed for Battambang. The bus journey was about 6 hours, including the stupid number of stops you do on the way. The bus drivers across Asia will earn a commision from any place that they stop at and [eople getting from the bus to the shop to buy something, so you can understand why thy do. Anyway, we made our way to our guesthous and decided to waste no time. We got a tuk tuk to Battambangs most famour\s attraction, a Bamboo train.
Originally used for moving bamboo from place to place, the double bed sized, open top cart speeds along a track which goes as far as Phnom Penh. I cant say how fast we were going but it felt pretty fast as we were close to the ground and in no way strapped in. We rode the train to the next stop and back which in all took just under 2 hours. From there we went to a local temple which is still run by monks and we got great views for miles of Cambodia

In the evening we found a Chinese place to eat. While we were in China, it seems as though we spent alot of time bitching and moaning about this and that, but i tell ya what, we dont half miss the food. With out a doubt, it has some of the best dishs either of us have ever had. My particular favouite was dumplings, and to my absolute joy, this chinese place had them. We feasted well, and slept better!
We did not see much need in spending another day inBattambang so we swiftly made our way out. We had also just found out that we would not be able to get a Visa for Laos upon arrival and would have to go back to Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh to sort our Visas out. It would take a couple of days to do.
