Cambodian, Thai soldiers make brief fighting

PHNOM PENH, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian and Thai soldiers made a brief fighting on Tuesday near the border area between the two countries.

Chhum Socheat (pictured), spokesman of National Defense said the fighting broke out in the morning on Tuesday and lasted about 10 minutes, but no casualties were reported yet.

He said the exchange of fighting was resulted from a misunderstanding by Thai side during which Cambodian soldiers were patrolling the border inside Cambodian soil.

Chhum Socheat said the fighting took place in the district of Trapaeng Prasat in the province of Oddor Meanchey, located about 70 km west of Preah Vihear Temple.

Since the border conflict between the two nations began after Cambodia's Preah Vihear temple was registered as World Heritage in 2008, brief fighting between the two soldiers often heard as happened along the border.

The leaders of the two countries have pledged many times to ease the border tensions and to avoid the repeated clashes between the two armies.
