Cambodian officials from Boeng Trokuon Border Checkpoint have on 19th June asked Thai workers to stop digging and bulldozing an area about 182 metres from Boeng Trokuon Checkpoint and border post No. 36 because it is a disputed area, reports Cambodian Express News.
Mr. Nou Yorth, chief of Boeng Trokuon Border Checkpoint, said the Thai governor of Taphraya district of Sakeo province was the one who ordered the digging and bulldozing of the area which is located in Cambodia's Banteay Mean Rith village, Kork Romiet commune in Thmor Puok district of Banteay Meanchey province. It took Khmer authority 2 hours to convince the Thais to stop digging and bulldozing the area, he said.
Mr. Mao Rai, commander of border police regiment 807 based in Thmor Puok, said the Cambodian side had to detain the Thai machinery and bulldozers before they agreed to stop digging.
On Sunday 13th June, Thai authority had ordered the closure of Boeng Trokuon Border Checkpoint after Cambodian authority uprooted border the post unilaterally planted by Thai authority in a disputed location.
