More than 10,000 Vietnamese holiday-makers have flocked to Cambodia during the two-day national holiday from 29-30 April, reports Radio France Internationale.

Vietnam marked its 35th anniversary of the Viet Cong victory over the South Vietnamese government when Saigon fell to the North Vietnamese Army on 30th April, 1975.

Border officials said this is a significant increase compared to the same Vietnam National Day in 2009, when only 6,000 Vietnamese tourists visited Cambodia.

Currently, Vietnam is the number one source of tourists to Cambodia, overtaking South Korea which was the number source of tourists to Cambodia from 2007-2008.

Mr. Ho Vandy, chief of Cambodia-Vietnam border checkpoint, said just the first 3 months of 2010, there are already 90,000 Vietnamese tourists visiting Cambodia.

Vietnam is also one of the biggest investor in Cambodia, especially in agriculture, manufacturing and in banking. Figures show that from 1994-2009, Vietnamese investors had invested about $2.7 billion. Figures also show that in the 11 months in 2009, Vietnamese investors had invested $1.6 billion already.
