HAVANA, Cuba, May 7 (acn) The Royal Order of Monisaraphon was given on Friday to Cuba’s ambassador to Cambodia, Gilda Lopez, for her contribution to the international recognition of
Cambodian heritage.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok An presented the Cuban diplomat with this medal, conferred to persons who stand out exceptionally in the fields of education, literature, fine arts, law and sciences, the Prensa Latina news agency reports.
Sok An, who is also a member of the Council of Ministers, thanked the Cuban government and people for the help given to his country in half a century of diplomatic relations, on the basis of shared principles.
The top Cambodian official acknowledged the island’s support for the approval, by UNESCO, of the Khmer Preah Vihear Temple as a World Heritage Site.
This merit is of special significance for Cambodia, since the temple is the object of ancient territorial conflicts with Thailand, which also claims the sovereignty of the
sanctuary.
