Obscenities lead to Providence man's arrest

CRANSTON, R.I. -- A Providence man pleaded not guilty in District Court Tuesday to charges of assault and disorderly conduct during the April 10 Cambodian New Year's celebration at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet.

Bona Heng, 21, of 1045 Elmwood Ave., Providence, faces the misdemeanor charges after he was heard yelling obscenities from his car in the parking lot just before 11 p.m., according to the police. When an officer told him to stop shouting, he turned up his car radio to a deafening level, the police said.

When he was told to turn it down, he cranked it up even higher and repeatedly refused to leave, at one point swearing at the officer, taking a drag on a cigarette and blowing it in the officer's face, according to the police.

When he was told to step from the car, he violently opened the door, hitting the officer, and then began to reach under the driver's seat, according to the police.

Patrolman Daniel Dempsey, concerned that Heng might be reaching for a weapon, pulled him out and subdued him after Heng repeatedly punched and kicked him, according to the police.

Heng is due back in court May 5.
