King Father Sihanouk will pay a visit to Vietnam in June in an effort to strengthen relations between the two countries, reports everyday.com.
Prince Sisowath Thomico, King Father Sihanouk's advisor, told Radio Free Asia that King Father Sihanouk will stay in Vietnam for one week where he will meet a number of top Vietnamese leaders. Prince Thomico said Sihanouk wants to also remind the Vietnamese leaders of his sacrifices and helps he provided to Vietnam in its fight against the Americans in the 1960s and 70s.
Prince Thomico said King Father Sihanouk's visit is at the invitation of the Vietnamese President, Mr. Nguyen Mingh Triet, an invitation extended to him on 1st February.
The last time King Father Sihanouk visited Vietnam was in 1995 when he was King of Cambodia, 9 years before he abdicated in faveour of his son, the current King Sihamoni. Sihanouk was a very good friend of past Vietnamese leaders, such as President Ho Chi Minh, Prime Minister Pham Van Dong, Gen. Nguyen Van Giap and Mr. Le Duc Tho etc.
