The United States government has officially launched a 5-year, 10 million dollars education plan in programs that will see the improvements of Cambodian education standards, reports Radio Free Asia.
According to a statement released by the U.S Embassy on 12th March, the plan is aimed at improving the quality and standards of Cambodian education system and increase school attendance among disadvantaged groups such as among girls, ethnic minority groups and students from poor families.
During a launch of the plan on 11th March, Mrs. Carol A. Rodley, U.S Ambassador to Cambodia, and Mr. Im Sothy, Cambodia's Minister of Education, praised the potentiality of these new programs. "This plan will provide Cambodian students the opportunity that they need to achieve their full potential and the United States hopes to work with all of our education partners for the next 5 years", said Mrs. Rodley.
The statement said the new programs will help 12,000 students from elementary levels right through to secondary levels in Kratie, Kampong Cham and Siem Reap provinces. It said the World Education Organisation is the one who will implement the programs in cooperation with the Cambodian Education Ministry.
