Court Fixes June 24 As Deadline For Siti Aishah To Get Interpreter

KOTA BAHARU, March 11 (Bernama) -- The Syariah High Court here on Thursday gave Siti Aishah Chow, the Cambodian ex-wife of Melor assemblyman Wan Ismail Wan Jusoh until June 24 to get a certified Cambodian interpreter or the hearing of her RM3 million alimony suit will resume without one.

Syarie judge Abdullah Man made the order after allowing her application for a postponement.

However, he also took into consideration the application by Wan Ismail's counsel, Mohd Raziman Yaakob, to proceed with the hearing and fixed June 24 as the final date.

Siti Aishah's counsel Mohd Sibri Ismail earlier told the court that his client needed at least two months to get a certified court interpreter through the Cambodian embassy.

On Dec 3, the court had adjourned the hearing after granting Siti Aishah's application to get a Cambodian interpreter because she could not understand or speak fluently in Malay.

Wan Ismail was absent today while Siti Aishah came with their two children, Wan Ahmad Firdaus, four and Wan Nor Salwa, three.

Siti Aishah filed the RM3 million alimony suit under the Kelantan Islamic Family Enactment 2002 in January last year seeking maintenance for herself and their two children.
