Stephen Mussig in Brisbane before setting off for Rocky.
THE journey began during a Cambodian backpacking trip last year when former Rockhampton boy Stephen Mussig saw, up close, the poverty and hardship the people were living in.
Still affected by the genocide and oppression during the Pol Pot regime of the mid 1970s, Stephen said he saw, the fear and despair still being suffered by Cambodians and the great work of Tabitha Foundation Australia.
Back in Australia, Stephen was moved to action and has organised a Trek for Tabitha bike ride from Brisbane, where he now lives, to Rockhampton.
After months of training, he will start his ride on Saturday and hopes to raise as much awareness and money as he can.
The plan is to average 100km a day and Stephen is due to arrive in Rockhampton on February 19 at The Cathedral College.
And his efforts won’t stop there.
Stephen is keen to take annual leave in April to travel back to Cambodia to pick up tools to help build houses with the money he raises.
Any donations, monetary, or by way of gifts for a raffle, will be gratefully received.
