A NEW US$7.8 million rice mill will open in Battambang Wednesday after 18 months of building work. The new mill, operated by Baitong Co, will use the latest technology to produce 720 tonnes of processed rice per day, adding up to 259,200 tonnes a year. President Phou Puy explained that he expects the mill to standardise Cambodian rice to cater for the European market. At the moment, Cambodia exports only 6,000 to 7,000 tonnes of processed rice to European markets per annum due to the lack of hi-tech rice-milling equipment.
