Cambodian tourists have flocked to visit the abandoned house of Khmer Rouge leader Ta Mok in Anlong Veng for their Chinese New Year holiday, reports everyday.com.
Ta Mok's wooden house, built on a small island of a lake surrounded by water, has been a tourist attraction for many years, but in this year's Chinese New Year the tourist numbers have increased significantly.
Mr. Yim Phan, Governor of Anlong Veng district, said the majority of tourists are Cambodians who mostly spent only one day visiting the area. He said admission fee to Ta Mok's compound is 3000 riels (75 cents) for cars and its is free for pedestrians.
Ta Mok was a ruthless Khmer Rouge commanders who mercilessly killed many people in areas under his command in the southwestern region of Cambodia. He surrendered to the government in 1999, was arrested and detained until he died in 2006.
