Coastguards off Russia's Sakhalin Island have detained a Cambodian-flagged vessel carrying seven tons of live crab.
"The detention of the vessel, with a Russian crew on board, was conducted by a coastguard vessel on Tuesday in the southern part of the Tatar Strait in the Russian exclusive economic zone," a coastguard spokesman said.
The authorities found around seven tons of crab, one ton of squid, one ton of Alaska pollock and equipment for catching crab on board. An investigation is ongoing.
Russian coastguards are actively involved in tackling poachers in the country's territorial waters. Last year at least 20 ships, including many foreign vessels, were detained.
