A Cambodian man donned in army uniform was shot and killed by Thai soldiers who accused him of robbery. The Thai side has so far refused to return his body to his family, reports Radio Free Asia.
Pok Poch, the RCAF commander of army unit No. 3 based on Sampov Loun district, Battambang province, said that the Cambodian authority is currently in contact with the Thai side to repatriate back the body of the dead man to his family. “I am still continuing to conduct investigation in Phnom Dey. The killing took place inside Thai territories, not inside Cambodia. But, I am trying to do investigation with merchants who trade in this area”, Pok Poch said.
According to local villagers, Thai soldiers shot a killed a man donned in paramilitary uniform on the night of 3rd January near the Klong Hat district of Thailand's Sakeo province.
The same source confirmed that Thailand refused to return the body of the dead Cambodian man to the Cambodia authority: “He went to rob them in Thailand, then the Thai ordered their soldiers to ambush him. When he got out, they killed him. The Thai said that there is no need to repatriate the body back to Cambodia because they want to investigate the case. They said that Cambodians are bad”, the source said.
Keang Sothy, the deputy police inspector for Sampov Loun district, said that the Cambodian police heard about the killing, but it cannot investigate the case while the body remains in Thailand.
Radio Free Asia said that it could not reach the Thai authority to confirm about the alleged killing.
Recently, there has been a surge in the killings and wounding of Cambodian people along the Khmer-Thai borders as well as in Thailand by Thai soldiers.
