KOTA BAHARU, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- The Syariah Lower Court here Tuesday fixed July 7 for mention of a RM3 million alimony suit filed by the ex-wife of Melor assemblyman Wan Ismail Wan Jusoh.
Judge Nik Najib Che Hassan made the decision in chamber after hearing an application from Siti Aishah Chou Abdullah, 25, a Cambodian, to engage the services of a Cambodian interpreter, through her counsel, Sibri Ismail.
Sibri said Siti Aishah was not well-versed in bahasa Melayu and needed the services of a Cambodian to assist her in giving her testimony.
Responding to a question from Nik Najib, Siti Aishah said she could not communicate well in bahasa Melayu with her ex-husband, Wan Ismail, 54, during their marriage.
Wan Ismail's lawyer, Mohd Zaki Zainal Abidin did not object to the application.
Nik Najib reminded Mohd Zaki to advise Wan Ismail to adhere to the court ruling on Feb 18 last year to pay a temporary monthly maintenance of RM500 to his sons from his marriage to Siti Aishah, namely Wan Mohd Firdaus, 4, and Wan Nor Salwa, 3.
Wan Ismail did not attend the hearing as he was undergoing treatment for hepatitis at Selayang Hospital while Siti Aishah was accompanied by her father, Kim Ti.
In her suit, Siti Aishah sought a monthly maintenance of RM1,800 for their two children besides the RM3 million alimony.
