Dear friends Khmer and far,
so you thought the show was over? Far from it. Miss Landmine Cambodia marches on, and kicks off the new year with the crowning of the first Miss Landmine 2010 in the city of Harstad, northern Norway.
The crowning was part of the annual Harstad Conference, attended by the region's commercial and political decision makers.
This year's conference was themed "Social responsibility" and featured noted speakers such as
Google Norway Manager Jan Grønbech and former Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson.
Having been presented the project and all the candidates by Miss Landmine director Morten Traavik, an equally moved and provoked audience of 325 politicians, business managers an entrepeneurs from all over the region voted Miss Battambang, DOS SOPHEAP (19), the world's first, only and northernmost "Miss Landmine Harstad Conference 2010".
In football terminology, Sopheap's achievement is known as a flawless hat-trick.
Due to generous donations from the Harstad conference organizing committee and the business community of Harstad town and
Troms province of Northern Norway, a total sum of 3000 US dollars in prize money will be distributed in the following way:
Miss Battambang: Dos Sopheap (19), winner of both the international web vote and the Free Miss Landmine Cambodia final-in-exile in Norway, wins a fresh 1000 USD earmarked her future education as an accountant, on top of the two
prizes that she has received already for her two previous victories: a customised titanium leg prothesis and 1000 USD respectively.
Second place, Miss Preah Sihanouk: Sas Srey Mom (37), wins 750 USD earmarked her ambition to set up a home business in her village .
Third place, Miss Takeo: Thou Chorn (32 ) wins a fresh 750 USD earmarked her home business on top of the 500 she has already received for finishing 2nd in the Cambodian final-in-exile held in Norway on Nov 14 last year.
And because yes, we can, this time a 4th place prize will be awarded to Miss Kompong Cham: So Yeu (36 ) of 500 USD earmarked her home business and physical therapy for her paraplegic child, to add to the 300 USD that she received
already for finishing 3rd in the Cambodian final-in-exile in Norway on Nov 14 last year.

The prizes will, yet again, be handed over to the winners in secrecy as the Cambodian government still upholds its inexplicable ban
on Miss Landmine within the country and has refrained from explicitly guaranteeing the safety of the project's participants.
Other key dates for Miss Landmine Cambodia in 2010:
* March 8, Intn'l Woman's Day - the Miss Landmine Cambodia photo exhibition opens in Stockholm, Sweden
* April, date TBA - world premiere of Canadian Broadcasting Corp-commissioned documentary "Miss Landmine", dir.: Stan Feingold
* May 25 - the Miss Landmine Cambodia photo exhibition opens in Bergen International Festival, Bergen, Norway
Stay tuned.
Everybody still has the right to be beautiful!
All the best from Morten and the Miss Landmine team
