A military coup is not the solution to the ongoing political conflict as past coups had failed to settle the problem, navy chief Adm Kamthorn Phumhiran said on Thursday.
Adm Kamthorn said he does not want to see any further division among the Thai people and that all parties must perform their respective duties for the sake of the nation.
“All parties must comply with the rules of law and the navy is ready to provide support for any attempts to create peace and order in the country,” he said.
The navy chief said the commanders of the armed forces had not discussed the political situation but have been closely watching the situation.
He stressed that even though he was a classmate at pre-cadet school of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, he has clearly separated a personal relationship and his current duty.
He said Thaksin had never contacted him and he had no hard feelings in performing his duty as the navy chief.
