Kasit: No rush to improve ties

Now is not the time to improve relations between Thailand and Cambodia as the neighbouring country is still interfering in the judicial process of Thailand and Cambodia still keeps ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra as its economic adviser, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya (pictured) said on Tuesday.

"It will be difficult to improve the ties if Cambodia does not end its relationship with Thaksin," Mr Kasit said. "No matter what Cambodia said, it cannot change the fact that Cambodia has shown its disrespect for the justice system of Thailand and has interfered in Thailand's internal affairs."

Mr Kasit reiterated that Thailand wants to help improve living conditions of Cambodian people to reduce social gaps and helps solve problems relating to human rights.

When asked if it is time to send back the Thai ambassador to Cambodia, Mr Kasit said, "No, this is not the time."

"The causes of the problems have to end first," he said.
