Cambodian exports to the United States under the MFN (most favoured nation) status have fallen significantly in 2009 compared to previous years, reports everyday.com.
Figures from the Ministry of Commerce show that in the 11 months of 2009, exports to the U.S dropped by 27.12% and the fall in the revenues from those exports amounted to $US506 million. The export figures in the first 11 months of 2008 show Cambodian had exported products to the U.S worth $US1.865 billion, but the same period in 2009, Cambodia had exported only $US1.359 billion worth of goods to the U.S.
The majority of Cambodian exports to the U.S are mainly garments, textiles and shoes. Garment exports fell by 27.14%, textiles increased by 0.12%, shoes increased by 306.27% and other products increased by 457.80%. But, because the garment exports make up the big bulk of the exports, the overall Cambodian exports to the U.S fell by a significant 27.14%.
