STOCKTON - An outreach campaign aimed at boosting participation in the upcoming 2010 census is hosting an event today at Wat Dharmararam Cambodian Buddhist Temple, 3732 Carpenter Road.
The stop, one of more than 800 on the U.S. Census Bureau's Portrait of America Road Tour, is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is to include multicultural performances.
San Joaquin County has been identified as having an especially large number of hard-to-count residents - individuals who because of poverty, immigration status, race and other factors historically have been difficult to tally accurately.
Census forms are due to arrive in mailboxes in March, and the bureau is hoping to boost the number of people who return them by census day, April 1.
