Extradited man faces trial on child porn

DAVID BARBELER

AAP- An Australian man extradited from Cambodia to face online child pornography charges has been committed to stand trial.

Robbie Neils Berry, 53, appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday charged with possessing child pornography, using a carriage service provider to access child pornography, using a carriage service provider to make child porn available and unlawfully possessing a weapon.

No plea was entered and Berry made no application for bail.

The court has previously been told he possessed 14 computer hard disk drives of child porn.

Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers executed a search warrant at the man's home in Daintree, north Queensland, in November 2008.

Police arrested Berry in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh in May after the Australian government issued an urgent provisional arrest request to the Cambodian government.

He was extradited from Cambodia in October.

AFP officers say he is the first person to be extradited to Australia for prosecution under commonwealth online child sex laws that came into effect in 2005.

The maximum penalty for these offences is 10 years' jail.
