Summit Daily News
The Douglas Mendel Cambodian Relief Fund would like give a heartfelt thanks to everybody who showed up to the fundraiser on Sept. 25. It is the eighth event in four years at Foodhedz, and a very special thank you for the endless generosity, care and compassion of Dave and Patti and the staff at the restaurant for the people of Cambodia.
During 12 trips to Cambodia since 02/03, The DMCRF has delivered over 5,000 lbs. of donated supplies and gear to six fire stations, two national parks and two organizations that assist disadvantaged street children. Two fire trucks have been delivered as well, one from Red, White and Blue in 2006 to Sihanoukville, and one that was built in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, donated to Ratanakiri Province in 2007. With the continued support, amazing compassion and dedication of Foodhedz, and the Summit County community the above projects were able to come to fruition.
The next trip will be in February and a container will be shipped from Colorado to Cambodia within a month or so.
In these challenging economic times, it is all the more special and caring that the community continues to show support.
