PHNOM PENH, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian National Assembly on Monday stripped the opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) leader Sam Rainsy his parliamentary immunity.

Sam Rainsy has been lifted his immunity as lawmaker of the National Assembly this morning, Lawmaker from Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) Son Chhay told reporters at his headquarters on Monday.

Eighty seven lawmakers attended Monday's assembly voted to strip the parliamentary immunity of Sam Rainsy, but 26 lawmakers of SRP boycotted the assembly meeting.

Sam Rainsy was charged by Svay Rieng province Court of destroying wooden border demarcation between Vietnam and Cambodia, and attempted to inspire criminal cases in Oct. 25 at Svay Rieng province, the press release from the National Assembly said.

Immunity lifting of Sam Rainsy will allow the court to investigate the case, it said.

Sam Rainsy is the lawmaker from Kompong Cham province and the President of Sam Rainsy Party. The party got 26 out of 123 seats in the National Assembly that ruled the majority by Cambodian People's Party of Prime Minister Hun Sen.
