Deputy general director of Viet Tien company Phan Van Kiet said the company has found the demand for good quality products in Cambodia has been increasing.
Viet Tien plans to bring clothing products of differing quality to sell in the market, including low-cost products with the Viet Long brand name, medium-class products with brand names Viet Tien and Viet Tien Smart Casual. The most expensive products will bear the brand names of Sanciaro and Manhattan.
Viet Fashion Company, which opened in Cambodia two years ago, then shut in early 2009 due to management problems, has also announced a return.
Viet Fashion’s Chairman Nguyen Huu Phung said the company will resume business in Cambodia by early 2010 at the latest.
Yen Sovanny, general director of Cambodian Caja Top Company, said Vietnam-made apparel products are now favoured by Cambodian consumers, especially the products with the ‘V-logo’, the symbol of ‘Vietnamese high-quality goods’.
He said that products priced at $10-20 are the most salable products.
Yen Sovanny is now the general distributor for Viet Tien Garment Company. He hopes to expand his distribution network to other Cambodian provinces by the year end, including Siam Reap, Battambang and Sihanoukville.
Vietnam-made clothes are already selling at many markets in Cambodia, from border areas to big markets in Svayrieng and Kandal and Olympic, the biggest apparel market of the country. The products available there are sourced from small garment workshops in Vietnam.
The small merchants at the markets confirm that they purchased products from Vietnamese Tan Binh, Binh Tay and An Dong Markets for resale
According to the HCM City Investment and Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC), 14.5 million Cambodian people have the average income of $2,000 per head per year, while the purchasing power of Cambodian market is about $27.94 billion per annum.
Lim, a Vietnamese person, who has been living in Cambodia since 1993, noted that the living standard of Cambodian people has increased sharply. Meanwhile, there have been very few shops that sell high grade products.
Currently, Cambodian high income earners have to go to HCM City in Vietnam, Bangkok in Thailand or go to Singapore and Malaysia to purchase high grade products.
