Sky trains to run in Phnom Penh in 2014

Cambodia will have its first ever sky train in another 5 years, thanks to a $3.6 billion investment from Green Camco Ltd, reports Deum Ampil.

During a meeting with Minister of Finance Keat Chhon on 26th October, Green Camco Ltd revealed that it will invest $3.6 billion to build light rails on the sky of Phnom Penh in order to help alleviate traffic congestion.

During the meeting, Mr. Richard Ronnie, CEO of Green Camco Ltd, said his company plans to build a 39 kilometres light rail track and the 36 kilometres bus routes along the Phnom Penh boulevards as welll as a 180-megawatt solar electricity station to power the sky trains and service the city's electricity needs.

The construction of the sky train system will commence in 2011 and is expected to be completed in 2014, with plans to partially operate some of the services in the middle of 2013.

The sky train services will help ease traffic in Phnom Penh significantly and will service around 60,000 commuters daily, with predictions to reach one million commuters daily by 2043.

Great investments and great plans. It will certainly helps reduce traffic congestion. With this in mind, the Cambodian authority must plan properly for future cities. Public parks and big streets must be planned properly. Nowadays, cities like Camko City and Grand Phnom Penh International City had very narrow streets.
