The management of Radio Free Asia (RFA) has sought a meeting with Minister of Information Khieu Kanahrith (pictured) amid controversy over its sackings of seven staff recently, but he refused to meet them, reports Deum Ampil.
Mr. Kanharith said on 12th October that he refused to see them simply because they refused to honour previous agreement with him not to sack any staff.
Last month, Mr. Norman Thompson, a senior RFA official based in Washington DC, met with him and made a promise not to sack any staff, said Mr. Kanharith.
However, after the meeting, RFA continues to sack those staff who had expressed their opposition to the management style of the RFA Khmer Service's director, Mr. Kem Sos and his deputy, Mr. Sam Poly (alias Pov Ponlok).
Last week, on top of the sackings of 5 staff last month, RFA had sacked two of its star broadcasters, Mr. Sam Borin and Mr. San Suwidh.
