Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen has told journalists upon arriving in Thailand on 23rd October for Asean Summit that he will appoint the fugitive ex-Thai PM, Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, as his economic advisor, reports Radio France Internationale.

On 19th October, Mr. Hun Sen has angered Thailand when he said that he will build a brand new home for Mr. Thaksin if he chooses to seek a political asylum in Cambodia.

Deum Ampil quoted Mr. Hun Sen as repeating his offer of political asylum to Mr. Thaksin upon his arrival in Thailand for the Asean Summit. "Thaksin can stay in Cambodia as a guest of Cambodia and he can become my economic advisor", he told AFP in Hua Hin, Thailand.

"Our concerns stemmed from humanitarian reasons. It means that a friend must help a friend and the internal affairs of Thailand must be resolved by the Thai people and I will not interfere", he added.

Mr. Hun Sen affirmed that he is not backing the anti-government red-shirted group. "Do not accuse Hun Sen of supporting Mr. Thaksin in relations to the politics of the red-shirted anti-government group", he said.

In the past, Mr. Hun Sen had appointed many former foreign dignitaries as his economic advisors, notably Mr. Lee Myung-bak, the current S.Korean president, who had just concluded his state visit to Cambodia on 23 rd October.
