US men in court over Cambodian sex allegations

Austin News.Net
Tuesday 1st September, 2009

Three US men have been expelled from Cambodia, accused of sex with minors.

The men are now facing charges in the US as part of a crackdown on Americans who allegedly travel overseas to have sex with children.

The three are previously convicted sex offenders and are the first people to be charged under a program that targets the child sex trade in Cambodia, which has been described as a new frontier for sex travellers.

The head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the US, John Morton, has warned travellers to the region that: "Boarding a plane to a foreign land is no protection."

The men had been arrested in February by Cambodian police in relation to child sexual exploitation.

One of the men is alleged to have dropped currency in Cambodian streets to attract children.

If convicted, the three men now face sentences of up to 30 years for each alleged victim.
