Cambodian border troops based at the disputed Preah Vihear areas have warned Thai "yellow shirt" protesters not to cross the borderlines when they march to the border today (Saturday).
Gen. Chea Dara, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Cambodian Armed Forces, was quoted by Deum Ampil as to have said that the Cambodian soldiers have drawn the lines in which the Thai protesters cannot march beyond.
He was quoted as telling Deum Ampil on 18th September that Prime Minister Hun Sen has instructed the Cambodian troops to use the rights of self-defence should the protesters cross the borderlines. He said he was strictly instructed by the Prime Minister to protect Cambodian territorial integrity by not allowing the protesters to violate, even one milimetre inside Khmer territories.
Gen. Chea Dara added that the Cambodian troops are ready to defence Cambodian territories and will use the rights to self-defence should the Thai protesters violate Cambodian sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Gen. Srey Doek, commander for the Preah Vihear areas, said he had physically drawn the lines on the grounds to warn the Thai protesters not to cross. "I have drawn the lines for them to walk. If they cross the lines, whether they are soldiers or civilians, we will use our rights to self-defence to protect our sovereignty", he said.
The general's comments were made before the Thai "yellow shirt" protesters are expected to march to Preah Vihear temple on Saturday 19th to reclaim the temple, lost to Cambodia under the International Court case of 1962.
The latest news indicated that Thai security forces will block the protesters at Srol village in Kantharalak district, about 3 kilometres from Preah Vihear temple. Spokesman for the Cambodia Defence Ministry, Gen. Chhum Socheat, said that he had received information that each protesters have been paid 1,000 Thai Baht ($30) each day that they come to protest.
